It’s A Matter Of Degrees
John Horchner, Editor, Green Home Club
Most homeowners start their retrofit journey by calling a contractor — but each contractor pitches their own solution: the window guy recommends windows, the HVAC guy pushes a new system, and the solar company wants to install panels.
The result? Confusion. Mismatched upgrades. Wasted money.
Green Home Club flips the model.
We help you start with a whole-home plan — using the Department of Energy’s Home Energy Score — so you can explore how combining different upgrades impacts comfort, savings, and carbon emissions before you spend a dime.
Dear Fellow Enthusiast:
Here’s a little factoid I’ve learned already - most of us could cut our CO2 emissions by 75%.*
How?
Creating an energy efficient home (save 25%)
Choosing renewable energy power sources for the home (save 25%)
Choosing cleaner transportation and driving electric vehicles (save 25%)
There are many examples of countries who have made this happen. Consider people in Germany, who we’ll be calling for advice! They found there was much they could do with their old homes, and it got even easier when their government was all-in, offering generous incentives to do the necessary work. Today, Germany is actively saying "peace out" to fossil fuel heating. 🇩🇪✌️
💚So yeah, we know it’s possible to -
Create cleaner, healthier fossil-free homes 🏡
Bonus: more comfortable living 😊
Here's the cherry on top: Energy-resilient, renewable-powered homes are hot properties! They don't just sell faster - like hotcakes in some areas - they also fetch a better price. The fact is that green homes are safer and healthier and more comfortable to live in.
How can we help?
1) We’re developing tools like our new chatbots to help make retrofitting an older home accessible. We know that making major or long term change is never easy, and we want to give you the proper tools to at least make a plan. A good plan. For some, that will be a 1 year plan; for others, it will be a 10 year plan.
2) Belonging to a mission, a team, a place, a point in time, has restorative effects. As they say, “Teamwork can make the dream work.”
Right now, our homeowners’ course is helping provide more than education - it includes tools for self-guided audits, renovation checklists to hand to contractors, and green home advice that will empower a new type of consumer in the marketplace.
If you have insights or expertise to contribute to this course, I’d love to collaborate with you. Feel free to reach out directly via email at edit@greenhome.club or connect with me on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-horchner/.
